Your wellbeing comes first

A safe, non-judgmental space to explore what you're thinking and feeling — at your own pace, and without being told what to do about it.

Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or a life transition, the aim is to help you build coping strategies that actually hold up, deepen your self-awareness, and find your footing again.

My approach is generally non-directive. I don't arrive with a plan for your life — I'm led by what you need, and that's what decides the approach.

Who you'd be sitting with

Hello, I'm Ian

Ian McManus, counsellor and psychotherapist

A counsellor and psychotherapist in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15.

Many years ago a difficult situation in my own family led me to study counselling and psychotherapy. That was the beginning of it — and it's still why I do it.

I trained at PCI College in Dublin and hold a degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. Alongside the practice, I've spent years volunteering with a homeless outreach programme, which has changed how I listen.

More about me

The room

Not a clinic

Two armchairs, a wood stove, and no one else within earshot. Nothing about it feels clinical — which, for most people, turns out to be the point.

What I work with

Where people usually start

These are the most common reasons people get in touch — but you don't have to fit yourself into one of them to make contact.

01

Stress

When the pressure stops easing off and starts doing damage.

02

Anxiety

Dread that never quite names itself, and won't switch off at night.

03

Depression

When everything flattens and ordinary tasks cost far too much.

04

Anger

Usually the surface of something else worth understanding.

05

A friendly ear

Sometimes you just need someone who listens without interrupting.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

How do I begin?

Fill in the form on the contact page, or call or WhatsApp me directly on +353 85 219 9600.

It helps if you mention the days and times you're generally free, and give a brief idea of what you'd like to work on — though neither is necessary.

I'm not sure therapy is for me. How do I know?

You don't need to be certain before you make contact. Therapy is a space to explore the thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours that are weighing on your life, with the support and safety to understand them and, often, to change them.

You can benefit from counselling at any stage of life — though people most often consider it during a change, a transition, or a personal crisis.

Getting in touch is the hard part

You don't need to know what you want from therapy before you make contact.
